OK. There are a million ways to make a great green smoothie. This is exactly what I made you at the show and it’s my personal favorite!
Put ingredients in the container in the order listed.
½ cup liquid (I use any fruit juice concentrate that has no added sugar. Usually Treetop Apple Raspberry)
½ an orange with the pith (white part)
a big chunk of pineapple with the core
one strawberry with the stem
2 cups of spinach
one leaf of collard greens
one stalk of kale
a few sprigs of parsley
4 dates with pit removed
3 cups of ice
As always, start on a variable Speed 1, increase to a 10. Then turn it on High. Push hard! Making all ingredients hit the blades. Keep pushing until bottom is liquefied and moving freely. Blend for at least 2 minutes or until you have the desired consistency. The longer you blend the more liquefied it will become. If you enjoy more of a smoothie consistency spin less, if you like more of a juice consistency blend more!
Feel free to substitute like ingredients for like ingredients. For example, soy milk for juice (liguid for liquid), apple for pear (hard fruit for hard fruit), rainbow chard for kale (greens for greens), orange for pineapple (juicy for juicy!) etc…
This is a modified Vitamix recipe. The basic version is called “It’s Easy Being Green” and can be found in The Whole Foods Cookbook, in the Beverage section on page 30.
*This recipe has been written for the Vitamix 5200. If you are using a different Vitamix machine, you may need to make adjustments to the Variable Speed and/or processing time.
