Q: What is the Difference Between The Wet and Dry Blade Containers?
When you purchased your machine, it comes with a “wet” blade container. The shape of the four blades is pointy and as it spins, it creates the “vortex’ pulling everything effectively in and down.
The “dry” blade container has two blades with a broader flat surface and two with a blade that hooks upward like a dough hook. It pushes everything more effectively out and away.
Both sets of blades are not sharp, they are about as dull as a good butter knife. It is the patented shape of the blades and the pure strength of the 2.1 peak horse power motor that does all of the actions.
In essence each container will perform the same functions but slightly differently. For example both containers will make flour from grains. The wet blade will grind it to a course flour, while the dry blade can grind it to that of a powder, or pastry chef quality. By the same token, the dry blade can also be used as an extra container for making a smoothie or a frozen cocktail, but it will never be quite as smooth as in the wet blade container. Both containers can do the same functions…but they are each designed to perform certain functions better than the other.
Our advice is to use the wet blade for virtually everything and add the dry blade container to your Vitamix collection. This way you have the extra container which is very handy when cooking or preparing for every day meals and entertaining.
The dry blade is also essential to have if you are an avid baker as it also kneads dough. Or if you like to grind your own fresh coffee beans and hard spices every day, it’s a must have. If you continually do hard dry grinding in the wet blade container it may dull the bevel under the blades, and in a few years’ time you may notice that your beverages are not as smooth.
Long story short…it’s great to have both! If you don’t think you have a need for the dry blade right now, start with your Vitamix wet blade today and if you change your mind and want to add a dry container you can always pick it up at one of our shows for $98.99. At the Vitamix website it is sold separately for $144.00 and $25.00 shipping fee. Everything is always a better deal at one of our many Road Shows!
